Picture This: a world without waste.

Everything vended, distributed or associated with Earth Day 2009: Picture This celebration at Goodale Park will be either compostable or recyclable.  Receptacle for the various waste streams will be scattered throughout the park on April 19th.  The compost collected will be taken to the Whole Foods Market's Dublin location (corner of Sawmill and Dublin-Granville Road).  Whole Foods Market partners with Paygro, a commercial composting facility near Springfield, to transform food scraps, unbleached paper products and compostable packing into usable mulch, compost and other soil amendments.  In 2008, through recycling and composting, Whole Foods' Dublin location was able to divert 2.5 million pounds from the landfill.

Recyclable materials, including cardboard, plastics and aluminum (note, glass is not allowed in the park), will be collected and placed in roll-off dumpsters provided by SWACO.  Rumpke runs a single stream material recovery operation on Fields Avenue and has a contract with SWACO to process and resell the recyclable material.  Their process (video here) has a recovery rate of more than 90% and avoids the need to sort recyclable items where they are generated.
